BOLD MUSIC TO FIGHT YOUR FEARS.
A byproduct of Black America's schizophrenia - Rome Herbert, brings listeners the collision of multiple worlds.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Rome Herbert comes with a perspective foreign to many. Growing up, his family stayed in the suburbs northwest in a middle class mixed race neighborhood. However, due to mental illness in the household, he would frequent the near east side staying with his grandma, a separate world in the hood that lacked the safety of his primary residence.
The intersection of class, faith, blackness, and mental illness was a revolving door in Rome's life. The medium of expression that kept him sane? Hip Hop.
Rome's passionate delivery intertwined with intimate story-telling is crafted from this split of living between. Schizophrenia in the home led to instability, yet also a reference point for living black in America - switching between the white and the black community. Hip Hop gave language for fiery proclamations along with relaying vulnerably insecurities. His soundscape trends towards cinematic trap - a fusion of dark, orchestral and piano-driven songs mixed with infectious 808's and drums that create anthems of fighting fear, eventually morphing into triumphant trumpet-laced tracks of victory alongside melodic ballads of vulnerability.
Tackling issues of faith, social justice, mental illness, & class division, listeners will consistently be challenged and encouraged by the lines that Rome intentionally colors outside of. Understanding the need for mental health support and resources - especially in underserved communities - Rome has made it his mission to infuse messages of hope, healing, and liberation into the music. By combining the power of faith and the universal language of music, the aim is to create meaningful connections and foster dialogue around mental wellness. From facilitating workshops to curating empathetic and interactive listening parties for his music, Rome is creating a space for you to fight fear to the sounds of blackness, mental health, and Jesus until the world hears us.
